Audra McDonald's artistry is unmatched in the range and variety of her work as a vocalist, and actor. Her 2015 season saw her win record-breaking 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and the Emmy Award. Her work was acknowledged by Time magazine among the 100 most influential people and was awarded her the National Medal of Arts - the top award given in America in recognition of artistic excellence by President Barack Obama. With a soprano of unmatched beauty, and an ability of dramatizing the truth, her roles in Broadway or in the opera stage are just as comfortable as those in films and TV. As well as her theatrical performances, she also has an active career as a singer and concert performer. She regularly performs in the best venues of the world. A musically inclined family, McDonald lived within Fresno California and received her training in classical singing in New York's Juilliard School. The year 1994 was the year following her graduation from the Juilliard School, McDonald won the Tony Award for "Best Performance of a Leading Actress musical" for Carousel. Through the course of four years she was awarded two more Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performances on performances in the Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's Play Master Class (1996) and the Musical Ragtime (1998) which gave her an incredible total of three Tony Awards before the age of thirty. Along with setting a record in the number of honors an actor has earned, she was the first person ever to win every category. McDonald is also featured in The Secret Garden (1993), Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV (2004) The 110th Shade (2007 Twelfth night (2009) and Shuffle Along: A Musical Shock Story: Making of the Musical Shock in 1921 as well as Everything That Followed (2016). She was the very first actress to receive an award in every one of the acting categories. McDonald was first introduced to the television audience for her dramatic performance in Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say:"The Delany Sisters first 100 years. The Bite is a drama which has six episodes, based on a pandemic, coproduced by Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. She appeared alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. She starred in 2009 as U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. In 2018, McDonald played her character Liz Reddick as a regular on Paramount's The Good Fight. She earned three Critics Choice Award nods for this performance. She also appeared as a guest on Julian Fellowes's historical drama The Gilded Age.
